SEATTLE – The Mariners will offer peanut-free seating zones during home games on August 5 and September 9, allowing fans with peanut allergies to attend without risk of reaction.

The two seating sections, 311 and 312, are located down the right field line in the upper seating area. They'll be thoroughly cleaned before the games and marked with signs. Nearby concessions stands will not carry peanut products.

About 150 tickets for the peanut-free zone are available for each game. They cost $10.

The Mariners are one of only a handful of Major League Baseball teams that offer such seating areas, according to a press release.

Safeco Field was built in 1999 at a cost of $517.6 million.

Roughly 12 million Americans have food allergies.
