Washington 5, Washington St. 1

07:13 AM PDT on Monday, May 12, 2008

Associated Press

SEATTLE - Nick Haughian struck out 11 in pitching a complete game yesterday and Kyle Conley hit a pair of two-run homers as the Washington baseball team beat Washington State, 5-1.

The win gave Washington a 2-1 victory in the "Apple Cup" series of three weekend games between the cross-state rivals.

Haughian held the Cougars to one run on four hits over nine innings. He now has 99 strikeouts on the year, one short of becoming just the fourth different Husky pitcher in history to record 100 strikeouts in a season.

Washington State's only run came on a sacrifice fly by Michael Weber.
