WEMBLEY, England (AP) — Interim England coach Stuart Pearce is keen to stay in charge for the European Championship if Fabio Capello's permanent successor is not appointed within three months.
Already the coach of the England under-21s and the British Olympic team, Pearce will audition for the senior job on Wednesday when he takes charge of an exhibition against the Netherlands.
Pearce was appointed national team coach on a short-term basis while the Football Association decides who will replace Capello following the Italian's sudden resignation this month.
Harry Redknapp is the leading contender, but the Tottenham manager is reluctant to leave the Premier League title contenders in the lurch. The domestic season ends a month before England's Euro 2012 campaign starts on June 11 against France.
