LISBON (AP) — Benfica's Javier Saviola has been named the best player of the 2009-10 Portuguese league season by the sports newspaper A Bola.
The Argentine forward led Benfica to the league title last year with 11 goals.
This season, second-place Benfica is 11 points behind FC Porto with a game in hand.
Saviola told A Bola that even though Porto has dropped very few points, "we have a competitive team and we will try every way we can to catch them."
Saviola has scored six goals this season.
