SOUNDERS FC NEWS RELEASE:

TUKWILA, Wash. - Roger Levesque scored and assisted and Miguel Montaño added a second tally but Seattle Sounders FC fell to Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 3-2, in the final game of the inaugural Cascadia Summit at Starfire Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Seattle conceded two early goals but Levesque pulled Sounders FC a goal back shortly before halftime. Whitecaps FC added a third strike at the outset of the second half before Montaño scored the game's final goal in the 77th minute.

Sounders FC scored its first goal just before halftime when Levesque knocked the ball into the net from point blank range following a scramble in the box. Zach Scott and Patrick Ianni were both credited with assists on the play which started from a corner kick. It was Levesque's first goal of the preseason.

Montaño brought the score to 3-2 after he finished a ball driven by Levesque through the crease and past Caps keeper Joe Cannon.

Salgado, the first overall selection in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, scored the game's first goal in the 6th minute. After a mistrap by a Seattle defender, Salgado ran onto the ball and finished one-on-one against goalkeeper Terry Boss.

Another defensive mistake in the 12th minute resulted in Vancouver's second goal. Russell Teibert hit a cross from the left flank that went through the hands of Boss and into the side netting.

Two minutes into the second half Camilo Sanvezzo put one into an open net after Boss had been drawn out for Vancouver's third tally.

Sounders FC held a 17-9 advantage on shots (7-6 on goal) and corner kicks, 13-1.

Erik Friberg found Scott on a free kick in the 20th minute but his diving header was saved by goalkeeper Jay Nolly. Friberg played another good ball into the box in the 23rd minute but Nolly kick-saved Levesque's sliding attempt at the back post.

Ianni pushed forward and blasted one off the crossbar in the 53rd minute and Joe Cannon made a difficult diving save after Levesque whipped a header on frame in the 66th minute.

Forward Mike Fucito left the game in the 38th minute with a hip injury and was replaced by recent signee Lamar Neagle.

In the opening match of the Cascadia Summit, Sounders FC fell to the Portland Timbers, 2-0. Portland and Vancouver then battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.

The Sounders FC Academy U18 team beat the Whitecaps FC Residency team 4-3 earlier on Sunday at Starfire Stadium. Jesse Klug, Glen Paden and Michael Steele scored for Seattle with Darwin Jones netting the game-winner in the 87th minute.

Sounders FC will play the Colorado Rapids in the Community Shield match on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PT on the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field.
