MONTREAL, Quebec – For the first time since 2009, the Sounders won their road opener, a 2-0 victory over the Montreal Impact at Olympic Stadium.
A Montreal own goal in the eighth minute put the Sounders up early when Lamar Neagle’s header hit the crossbar and deflected off Montreal keeper Troy Perkins into the goal.
Seattle’s second goal came in the 58th minute when Kenny Cooper found Obafemi Martins, who headed it past Perkins for his first goal of the season.
Sounders goalie Stefan Frei recorded his second clean sheet of the season.
This is the first Sounders victory over the Impact who came into the league in 2012.
The Sounders are now 2-1-0, and next face the Columbus Crew on Saturday at CenturyLink Field.
