CARSON, Calif. - Sounders FC general manager Adrian Hanauer said he would only allow himself a couple of hours to digest Sunday's season-ending playoff loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy - then it's back to work.
And Year 3 for the young franchise started Monday.
Hanauer said the offseason tasks include, among others: the upcoming expansion draft, Seattle's invitational combine for top college prospects, the MLS combine and subsequent SuperDraft, scouting international players and contract negotiations with current Sounders.
A disappointing defeat in the Western Conference semifinals for a second-straight season, he said, will only add more motivation to get better. Coach Sigi Schmid is already well into assessment mode to improve the roster for 2011.
"For me it's already a process of deciding, 'OK, these are the nucleus pieces we can build with and this is where we need to get a little bit better,' " said Schmid, who credited inexperience and immaturity for the early playoff exit.
