SEATTLE – Major League Soccer has suspended Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark for three games for yelling a gay slur at a Seattle Sounders FC ball boy during a match last Friday.
MLS has also ordered Clark to attend diversity and sensitivity training and has fined him an undisclosed amount.
Clark apologized on Twitter Saturday and the Dynamo said he would apologize personally to the boy.
“Major League Soccer will not tolerate this type of behavior from its players or staff at any time, under any circumstances,” Commissioner Don Garber said in a statement. “Colin Clark has expressed sincere remorse for his actions and I believe that he will learn from this incident.”
The game was televised on the NBC Sports Network. Clark could clearly be heard yelling the slur in the seventh minute of the game, which Seattle won 2-0.
