TORONTO (AP) — Kevin Payne has been fired as Toronto FC's president and general manager, the ousted soccer executive said Wednesday.
"I wish TFC and its supporters all the best," Payne said in a text message to The Canadian press. "I'm confident the team is in a great position heading into next year and I'm proud of that. I understand the desire to move forward in a different direction and want nothing but the best for the club."
The Major League Soccer club hasn't announced the firing.
The 60-year-old Payne joined the team in late November after a long successful run with D.C. United.
Toronto is tied for 18th in the 19-team league a 4-12-10.
