Seahawks place LB Mallard on IR

07:27 AM PDT on Thursday, August 7, 2008

Associated Press

RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks placed linebacker Wesly Mallard on injured reserve today with a knee injury and signed defensive back Derrick Johnson to fill Mallard's roster spot.

The Seahawks practiced twice today ... at the team's plush new practice facility in Renton on the shores of Lake Washington in the morning and briefly at Kirkland in the afternoon.

Defensive end Patrick Kerney wore a protective boot on his left foot today, but his injury is to the calf muscle. Coach Mike Holmgren believes Kerney will be back to practice in about a week.

Defensive back Jordan Babineaux and offensive lineman Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack both had MRIs on knee injuries from last weekend's scrimmage. Holmgren expects both players to be back in seven to 10 days.

The Seahawks will open their four-game exhibition season Friday night at Minnesota.
