NEW  YORK -- We’re finding this week that New York City has a lot of Seattle Seahawks fans, and not just those who have traveled here for Super Bowl XLVIII.

One of them is Brian Oakes, also known as “New Yawk Hawk.” He’s born and raised in the New York area, but he’s been a Seahawks fan since he was a kid.

“When I was a kid, I saw a Steve Largent commercial for Ivory soap and I liked the jersey,” said Oakes. His grandmother found him a jersey and has been a fan ever since.

When Oakes would come to Seattle for Seahawks games, his friends out west – who did not have the classic New York accent – helped him come up with his nickname.

“My friends out there said, ‘Oh, you’re from New Yawk? You’re from New Yawk?’ New Yark rhymes with Seahawk,” said Oakes.

The fan jersey he wears today is actually a hockey jersey, but it has his nickname emblazoned on the front along with imagery of the Chrysler building, Space Needle and CenturyLink Field as well as his own take on the Seahawks logo.
