Bremerton swimmer becomes worldwide star by 0.01

Nathan Adrian, the 23-year-old from Bremerton who was largely overshadowed by Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, became an instant star by winning the premier individual event in swimming, the 100-meter freestyle on August 1 at the Olympics. Adrian edged James "The Missile" Magnussen by one-hundredth of a second – the smallest possible margin.
