The National Science Foundation and NBC have teamed up for a series of videos explaining the science behind Winter Olympic sports.

In this video, Mechanical engineer Brianno Coller, a professor at Northern Illinois University, explains how engineers design the halfpipe so that snowboarder Shaun White can get more air time and allow him to perform tricks.
