Seattle boxer Queen Underwood could learn Monday whether she will be granted an invitational berth at the Olympics.
Women’s boxing blogger Raquel Ruiz tweeted Thursday that invitations from the Tripartite Commission within the International Amateur Boxing Association will be sent out Monday. The invitations will be sent out to the home countries of the boxers who are invited.
Underwood lost a close bout at the recent World Championships that would have guaranteed her a spot in London, site of the first ever Olympic boxing tournament for women.
A USA Boxing representative tells KING 5 three more slots could be awarded for the region of the America's (North, South and Central), but it's not clear whether those will be spread evenly among the three women's weight-classes, be distributed geographically, or be awarded based on past performance.
