Seahawks playoff position: Where they sit after Sunday

Chris Egan has the recap of the Seahawks' 26-24 victory over the Falcons.

Here's a look at how the rest of the NFC did Sunday and how it affects the Seahawks run for the playoffs (Hey, it's never too early).

The L.A. Rams lost a tight one to the Detroit Lions 31-28. With that, the Seahawks gained an extra one-game advantage over the Rams in the NFC West. The Rams play the Giants next week in London then get their bye.

The Arizona Cardinals host the New York Jets Monday night.

The San Francisco 49ers, led by Colin Kaepernick who was getting his first start of the season, were demolished by the Buffalo Bills 45-16.

Updated NFC West standings as of Sunday night

Seahawks    4-1

Rams           3-3

Cardinals     2-3

49ers           1-5

The defending NFC Champion Carolina Panthers are already on the brink. They lost an instant classic to the New Orleans Saints 41-38. The Panthers are now 1-5 and will likely need to win out just to make the postseason.

The Dallas Cowboys led by the rookie backfield of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott upset the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field 30-16.

After a 3-0 start, the Philadelphia Eagles have dropped two straight, losing to the Washington Redskins 27-20.

The New York Giants evened their record to 3-3 with a 27-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Chicago Bears are basically done for. They dropped to 1-5 with a 17-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 5-0 Minnesota Vikings and 2-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on a bye this week.

If the playoffs started Sunday night

1 seed: Vikings (5-0; would get home field advantage)

2 seed: Cowboys (5-1; would get 1st round bye)

3 seed: Seahawks (4-1; would host Wild Card)

4 seed: Falcons (4-2; would host Wild Card)

5 seed: Redskins (4-2; would play at Falcons)

6 seed: Packers (3-2; would play at Seahawks)

But there are still 11 weeks to go.
