Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril and his foundation will host a backpack and school supply giveaway on Sunday just in time for the start of school year. The event will be held at the Rotary Boys and Girls Club in Seattle from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is hosted by the Cliff Avril Family Foundation, which works to “increase awareness of Type 2 diabetes in youth and encourage healthy living through nutrition and exercise,” according to its site. The foundation has also provided education support and opportunities to youth in Haiti and various other communities including Seattle and Jacksonville.
Avril, entering his 10th NFL season, was awarded for his philanthropic efforts with a $50,000 donation to his foundation courtesy of the United Way earlier this month.Over the summer, the Pro Bowl defensive end made a trip to Haiti where he built homesto withstand natural disasters, donated diabetes testing supplies and held a youth football camp. He also raised funds for the Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes run event in Seattle.
Avril will host two more events with the Cliff Avril Family Foundation in September, including his Safeway Health Fair on Sept. 2 and his annual Dining to Make a Difference event on Sept. 18.
