NEW YORK -- The Seattle Mariners snapped their 17-game losing streak Wednesday, riding a 17-hit attack led by Ichiro Suzuki and rookie Dustin Ackley to a 9-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

Felix Hernandez pitched seven innings for his third straight win in the Bronx. Suzuki had four hits and scored two runs. Ackley tripled among his three hits and drove in three runs as the Mariners did something they failed to accomplish during the skid: they turned an opponent's mistake into a big inning.

Seattle took 21 days worth of frustration out on three relievers, scoring five runs in the seventh inning -- highlighted by Mike Carp's bases-loaded triple -- after Robinson Cano flubbed a flip to Derek Jeter at second base for an error.

THEY WON ONE! The police is getting ready for riots in the streets, car being turned over, bussiness getting looted all in the preparation for a parade the next day.

Professional sports really should change the way they do things. Instead of paying people solely based on past performance, look more to current performance. Tell them if they hit X number of homeruns they make X dollars or even make a per homer payment. Forget this garbage where they continue to get paid despite either putting in no effort at all or simply sucking.

I was hoping for the record books here. At least then this collection of overpaid underacheivers would have something to crow about to their grandkids when they retire. And it would have brought fans to the ballpark in droves to see this bunch break the major league record of whatever it is, twenty something straight losses. Can't this bunch do anything right?

They can not get anything right can they? They had a shot at the AL record and blew it. Of course what will probably happen is they will go on losing streaks through out the rest of the season but every time they get close to actually breaking the record they will win 1.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. This is just a little hiccup. They'll be back to their loosing ways shortly.
