SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners may be getting another division rival starting in 2013.

USA Today reports Jim Crane is expected to be approved Thursday as the new owner of the Houston Astros. He's expected to agree to move the team to the American League in order to give both leagues 15 teams and foster more interleague play throughout the season.

Since 1998, both the American and National leagues have had two five team divisions, but the A.L. West only has four teams and the N.L. Central, where the Astros reside, has six.

With the move, it’s expected the Astros would play in the A.L. West, the same division as the Mariners. That would give each league three divisions of five teams. Another possibility is the Astros move to the A.L. Central and another team from that division moves to the A.L. West.

Just what the Mariners need, another team to beat up on them. I still want to know how in the world that GM got his contract extended. That makes NO sense in any professional sport. The guy fields a team that is laughable and gets more money. Oh I forgot this is Seattle and he probably finished his required class diversity to this was kind of a bonus.

I wasn't a fan of inter league play when it first started. I was in Georgia. And the only team I really cared about was the Atlanta Braves . And the only league I really cared about was the National league. WELL, I've been in the Seattle area now for a little over five years . And have become a fan of both the Mariners and Braves. I loved when the Braves came to Seattle! I do wish they'd get rid of the wild card and extra round of playoffs.

well call me a fuddy duddy, ive been called worse, but i dont like inter-league play. . . . .just ruins the post season. liked it back when Teams stayed in their own leagues, and come world series. . . .like 1990 i think it was "Everybody knew" the A's were gonna Stomp the Reds", the A's lost in 4. i could bore you with more examples (like when Everyone "Knew" Dodgers would Crush the Orioles, Orioles Beat the Dodgers 4zip.)but i won't, he. Can you imagine the nostalgia and excitement when the Mets and Yankees played each other in Worls Series, but with Interleague play, Mets and Yankess play each other 10 times a year. . ..no biggie. to the Story, Doesnt make a difference whether Astros are Al or Nl, no difference other than DH.

When this happens there'll be an even lesser chance of the Mariners making the playoffs...
