SEATTLE (AP) — After a day off to savor a four-game winning streak, the Mariners welcome former manger Lou Piniella back to Safeco Field Tuesday for a three-game series against his Chicago Cubs.
Piniella managed the M's from 1993-to-2002 in their heyday. Now he's in the final year of his contract with Chicago. He doesn't know if it will be extended, but the 66-year-old says it will be his final job.
The Cubs are coming off a 12-1 victory Sunday over the Angels. But the Cubs are having a disappointing year with a 31-38 record.
Seattle is 28-and-41, but they just held Cincinnati to one run in three games.
Former Mariners pitcher Carlos Silva is 8-and-2. Acquired in the Milton Bradley trade, he starts for the Cubs Thursday against Felix Hernandez.
