A wrestler at Rogers High School in Puyallup is in the hospital after taking a knee to his throat during a match Wednesday night.
A school district spokesman said trainers on the scene took care of the student until paramedics arrived.
A Central Pierce Fire assistant chief said the wrestler had difficulty breathing due to an injury to his trachea, but he did not lose consciousness.
The student is at Good Samaritan Hospital. His condition is not known, but the assistant chief said that had the injuries been more serious, he would have been taken to another hospital.
