SEATTLE – The Pacific Northwest Football Association could face sanctions for allowing referees across the region to use pink whistles at high school football games.
The show of solidarity by 144 referees last week was to support breast cancer research. But the Washington Officials Association says that they broke the rules. The group says the issue isn't about what the pink whistles stand for, but about the race that the PNFA violated the organization's bylaws.
Individual referees will not be penalized.
