TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- Junior guard Brett Bailey scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead University to a 60-55 quarterfinal win over Lake Washington Thursday at the Class 3A boys basketball tournament.
The Titans (20-4) from Spokane shot nearly 50 percent from the field and held Lake Washington post Darien Nelson-Henry to just eight points. Cody Moore added 12 points for the winners. Neither team led by more than eight points in the game as the Titans were just 16-of-30 from the free-throw line.
Nelson-Henry, a 6-11 center, was held 10 points below his season average. He injured his ankle early in the fourth quarter with the Kangaroos (20-7) up 46-41. Lake Washington led 52-51, when he returned at the 3:31 mark after getting his ankle taped.
Matt Staudacher picked up the scoring slack with 30 points for Lake Washington. He hit three, 3-pointers and was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.
