PITTSBURGH (AP) — Colin Montgomerie is ready to get back to playing competitive golf. The newly minted Hall of Famer is so serious about it, he's switching continents.

The 50-year-old Montgomerie will make his Champions Tour debut this week in the Senior Players Championship. He plans to play regularly on the tour, hoping to rejuvenate a career that grew stale as the former second-ranked player in the world slipped in his late 40s.

Montgomerie hasn't won a tournament in six years but is energized about the chance to work on a "level playing field." The eight-time winner of the European Tour's Order of Merit says his game is in good shape and the slightly shorter nature of the courses on the Champions Tour is a good fit.

The four-round championship begins Thursday.
