Former University of Washington football coach Jim Lambright was arrested in Snohomish County earlier this month in a domestic violence investigation.

A Snohomish County sheriff's spokesman confirms Lambright was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail in the early hours of June 19 for a June 18 incident. He was released on his own recognizance.

According to probable cause documents, the incident happened at a home in south Snohomish County and involved one of Lambright's adult granddaughters.

Lambright said he had two sons staying at the house and that the granddaughters often see their parents. He stated he "did not see their reason to visit all the time" and "was sick of their attitude" and had asked his granddaughter to leave. When she refused, Lambright said he grabbed his granddaughter by the arms to force her out of the house. He said she wasn't harmed and did not understand why police were called.

According to the Lambright's granddaughter, age 23, Lambright "suddenly exploded on her" after she visited her father. She said he grabbed her by the arms and pulled her down to the kitchen floor; he then tried to drag her out of the house by grabbing her right ankle. He only managed to drag her five feet before she struggled free, ran outside and called 911.

Lambright's wife of 34 years, Lynne Lambright, and another family member witnessed the assault. Lynne Lambright told police Lambright suffered from dementia and an "explosive disorder" and that his condition was worsening. Lynne said Lambright has pushed and shoved her repeatedly over the course of their marriage, and that she was "truly a battered wife, both physically and verbally."

The two family members who witnessed the assault requested a no contact order place on Lambright, stating they feel threatened by the escalating level of aggression by Lambright.

Lambright has not been charged. The Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office says the case will be reviewed for a charging decision.

Lambright served as head football coach at the University of Washington from 1993 to 1998.
