OLYMPIA, Wash. -- After Friday's game, Cougar fans may want Washington State to play every football game on Fridays.

"I'm out of breath," said WSU graduate Kelsey Hodgin moments after the Cougars won the first-ever Apple Cup to be played on the day after Thanksgiving.

"It was so exciting," said Hodgin, who had to work serving drinks at the Pints & Quarts at the Westfield Olympia Mall during the game.

For decades, the cross-state rivalry game was played the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Recently, the games have moved to Thanksgiving weekend, but Friday's game was the first to be played one day after Thanksgiving.

The expansion of the Pac-12 and a more lucrative broadcast rights mean fans have to be more flexible.

No matter when it's played UW and WSU fans said nothing can take away from the emotion of the longtime rivalry.

"It's still the Apple Cup," said WSU fan Justin Clement.
