SEATTLE – Runs in the second and third lifted the UW to its second-straight 2-0 win as the No. 18 Huskies advanced to Sunday’s Seattle Regional Championship with the shutout vs. No. 23 Texas Tech.
Freshman Kasey Stanchek (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) made her first postseason appearance in the circle for the UW. She threw a no-hitter through four and walked the first batter of the fifth when sophomore Kaitlin Inglesby entered in relief. Stanchek got the win, improving to 10-2 on the year. Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) got the save, allowing just two hits.
The Huskies got the first run in the second with two outs. Inglesby walked to lead off the second, reached second on wild pitch and third on a sac bunt by freshman Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.). With two outs, junior Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) drove in Inglesby with a bloop single to left center.
Freshman Kimberlee Souza (Waialua, Hawai’I) led off the third with a single to left. Senior Kimi Pohlman walked (Sammamish, Wash.) and sophomore Victoria Hayward’s (Mountain View, Calif.) sac bunt advanced the runners with one out for senior Nikia Williams. Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was hit with the second pitch of her at bat, loading the bases for Inglesby. Inglesby popped up. With a full count and two outs, Lahners drew a walk to drive in a run for a 2-0 lead.
Tech would get the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth but a double play from Inglesby to Wright to Hooch Fagaly got UW out of the inning.
Wright led the Huskies with two hits.
