EUGENE, Ore. – A snowball fight on the University of Oregon campus Friday afternoon may not have been as jubilant as originally thought, according to a video posted YouTube.
The video, posted by campus news organization the Daily Emerald has already gone viral with more than 2.4 million hits as of Monday at noon.
The video shows students whipping snowballs at cars near the Erb Memorial Union. In one instance, a driver gets out of his car and confronts a student while others pelt him with snow balls.
Dean of Students Paul Shang said The University of Oregon Police Department is investigating an incident.
“The University of Oregon takes the conduct of its students seriously. Consequences are clear for those whose actions reflect poorly upon the university or violate its standards for student behavior,” Shang said in a statement on the University’s website. “However, until the facts of the snowball-throwing incident are sorted out, it would be premature to speculate about any potential outcomes in this case.”
Football coach Mark Helfrich said any players involved would be disciplined.
The video reportedly went viral after it was posted on Reddit, the Daily Emerald first reported, generating thousands of comments and ire on social media. Many on the site are accusing Ducks football players of being actively involved in the melee.
Oregon offensive lineman Andre Yruretagoyena tweeted: “Embarrassed by the video I just watched. That’s not all of us, sending the sincerest apologies.”
