SEATTLE - It looks like the University of Washington is going to keep its talented quarterback for one more year.

According to the UW's Web site, Jake Locker has decided to put off the NFL for a year and return to the Huskies for his senior year.

Locker released a statement through the university on Monday.

"After a great deal of careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to return to Washington and play my senior year," Locker said in the statement. "I am very excited about this team's opportunities and potential for the upcoming season and I am looking forward to being a part of it."

Locker, a native of Ferndale, Wash., is coming off a junior season during which he threw for 2,800 yards in his first year under the watch of coach Steve Sarkisian. Draft pundits have said Locker would be a high first-round pick if he left after his junior season.

Locker apparently wants one more shot at reaching a bowl game after the Huskies went 5-7 this year.

It's a good choice for Locker in that he will finish his education, but it won't be a good choice for the Huskies if they insist on keeping him at quarterback. If that is the case, he is going to need that education. He is NOT a good quarterback, and hopefully Sark will realize this and play him somewhere else where he might actually help the team. He is a terrible passer, and makes awful decisions when in the clutch. I am not saying that he isn't one of the greatest athletes to play at UW, but he just isn't a good quarterback. Let Montana start at QB and let Locker run for the Heisman at RB or maybe DB. That is where he could be great. If they have to have him at QB then please, use the spread option and let him run more than pass. At least use his strengths to your advantage.

You losers should try living your own lives instead of living vicariously through a bunch on 20-year-olds.

Wheee!! I was so concerned he'd forego finishing college to accept lots and lots of money. Which is fine, of course, but the education is much more important. Kudos to making the right choice!

I'm glad he'll be back with the Huskies and hopefully he will be rewarded in the coming years for the decision to stay. He won't make as much $ in the draft next year, but maybe he will develop into a type quarterback the NFL hasn't seen in years and it'll pay off for him in the long run.
