Portland State topples Northern Colorado 23-18

GREELEY, Colo. -- Drew Hubel completed 18 of 25 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown as Portland State defeated Northern Colorado 23-18 Saturday.

Connor Kavanaugh scored on a 1-yard run and Zach Brown kicked three field goals to help the Vikings (2-4, 1-3) win their first Big Sky game of the season.

Bryan Waggener threw for 208 yards and a TD and Korey Askew returned an interception 88 yards for a score for the Bears (1-5, 0-4).

Hubel's touchdown pass was a 22-yard strike to Lavonte Kriven with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter and gave Portland State a 20-15 advantage.

Northern Colorado took an 8-0 lead with 9:05 remaining in the first on Askew's return and a two-point conversion run by Sam Sewell. Waggener's 74-yard touchdown pass to Chris Morris with 12:30 left in the second put the Bears ahead 15-10 before the Vikings rallied.
