The Seattle Thunderbirds have taken a commanding 3 game series lead over I-5 rival Everett Silvertips in the first round of the Western Hockey League playoffs. The T-Birds defeated the ‘Tips 4-3 in an overtime thriller at ShoWare Center in Kent Tuesday night. Everett opened the scoring early, with a goal from Patrick Bajkov on a power play early in the first period. Seattle’s Branden Troock tied things up midway through the first, before Bajkov put Everett ahead again on a power play in the final minute of the opening period. Scott Eansor evened the score early in the second period, but Everett pulled ahead again later in the second, on a goal by Mirco Mueller. Scott Eansor notched his second goal of the game (and playoffs) early in the third period, and the T-Birds held off the Silvertips to end regulation tied 3-3. 16-year-old phenom Matthew Barzal tallied the overtime win for Seattle early in the overtime period, sending the crowd of 5176 (mostly T-Birds fans) into a frenzy.
