Concerns have been raised by the Port of Seattle about traffic congestion in the SODO neighborhood if a new NBA/NHL arena is built next to Safeco Field. So, we decided to check what traffic is like now on a typical Seattle Mariners game night.

The first study on the traffic impact from a proposed NBA/NHL arena in Seattle's SODO district says the area has both sufficient parking and transit for most arena events. It also said arena traffic wouldn't interfere with Port of Seattle traffic.

On the same day that developer Chris Hansen identified a business advisory panel for his proposed SoDo arena, the Golden State Warriors announced plans to move from Oakland to San Francisco by the 2017-18 season into a waterfront arena different from Hansen's Seattle's vision in two noteworthy respects -- the $500 million arena will be completely privately financed and has no plans to accommodate an NHL team.

Hansen's $490 million proposal includes up to $200 million in participation by the city and King County via general obligation bonds, essentially a loan to be paid for from taxes generated by the building's operations.

The shirts show an altered version of the classic Sonics logo. On the back is the message "Thank You Seattle -OKC." But the company took the shirts off its website Monday after receiving death threats.

The city said no new tax money would be used to build the arena and teams would have to enter a binding agreement to stay until the facility is fully paid off. The city will also work to get the SuperSonics name and history back.
