SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki picked up his ninth consecutive Gold Glove Tuesday as the American League announced which players were honored for their fielding excellence in 2009.
Representing the World Series champion New York Yankees were Derek Jeter, winning his fourth Gold Glove at shortstop, and first baseman Mark Texiera. Los Angeles Angels center fielder Torii Hunter also won for the ninth straight year.
First-time winners Tuesday included Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones and Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle.
Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer and Detroit Tigers second baseman Placido Polanco each earned their second Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
National League winners will be announced Wednesday.
