Who should Seahawks fans vote for?
Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is one of 16 NFL players who are finalists to be on the cover of this year’s Madden NFL 15 video game.
It’s a sign of prestige if a player gets onto the cover. But anyone into football and gaming knows this could be bad news for Sherman and the Seahawks in 2014 because of the so-called Madden Curse.
Fourteen of the 16 players who have graced the cover of the popular game have either sustained significant injuries or had terrible seasons statistically.

Take 2006, for example. Former Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander was coming off an MVP and Super Bowl season. He had rushed for a league-high 1,880 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also signed a huge multi-year contract after that.
He made the cover of Madden that following season – and his play on the field tanked. Alexander played two more injury-plagued years in Seattle, never returning to MVP form. He ended up in Washington after that where he played in four games before his retirement.
Look up and down the list of players who have made the Madden cover and you'll see similar stories.
Sherman is coming off a league-best 8 interception season and a Super Bowl championship. Just like Alexander, he has also signed a big, multi-year contract extension.
If Sherman makes the cover of Madden, which is a distinct possibility given his skyrocketing notoriety since the NFC Championship postgame rant, will the curse strike again?
A fan vote will determine who is on the cover. It’s set up in a bracket-style format.
Sherman’s first opponent is Alshon Jeffery of the Chicago Bears. If Sherman advances, he would face either Eddie Lacy of the Green Bay Packers or Jimmy Graham of the New Orleans Saints.
Beyond that, Sherman could end up toe-to-toe with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. That begs the question: Would Seahawks fans vote for Sherman to beat Kaepernick, or would they vote for Kaepernick in order to keep Sherman off the cover and away from the Madden Curse?
