CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - The Quizz Show is full of surprises.

This past week, in Oregon State's 26-19 victory over UCLA, running back Jacquizz Rodgers passed out of the Wildcat formation - resulting in a 14-yard touchdown to Brady Camp.

The play, while gimmicky, added another dimension to Rogers, who is known almost universally as Quizz.

The sophomore tailback made a splash last season as the first freshman to be named the Pac-10's offensive player of the year. This season, he's averaging 115.25 yards a game, second only in the conference to Stanford's Toby Gerhart.

Quizz, who is just 5-foot-7, has run for 922 yards with 14 touchdowns. He's caught 49 passes for 371 yards and another score. His pass attempt was "in the lab" for a while before the Beavers pulled it out against the Bruins.

"Well, it was out of the 'Wild Beaver.' I faked the fly sweep to Markus Wheaton. The pass was intended for Brady Camp, and it was an easy pass because he was wide open," he described.

One thing Quizz has never done is fumble. He's got 510 career touches: 431 carries, 78 catches and one pass.

"My coach (running backs Coach Reggie Davis) always preaches high and tight, just make sure you secure the ball, that's the main thing. I make sure I keep it secure when I'm making cuts, or running through holes," he said.

SCOUTING CAL: Oregon State (5-3, 3-2) visits No. 23 California (6-2, 3-2) Saturday in Strawberry Canyon. A victory would make the Beavers bowl eligible.

The Beavers have a four-game winning streak at Memorial Stadium. They've won eight of the last 10 against the Bears.

But coach Mike Riley says streaks don't impress him much.

"They're all individual games to me and so they all carry their own story," he said. "There's been a common denominator in the fact that we have run the ball well and we've played a lot of good defense."

Oregon State defeated Cal 34-21 last season at Reser Stadium. Jacquizz Rodgers ran for 144 yards and a touchdown.

A bowl invitation this year would be a school record fourth straight season the Beavers will have appeared in the postseason.

EXTRA POINTS: Justin Kahut has been named the Pac-10's special teams player of the week for hitting four of five field goal attempts against UCLA. He has 15 field goals this season, tying him for sixth in the nation. ... Quarterback Sean Canfield has posted back-to-back 300-yard passing games with no interceptions. ... Oregon State has won six of its last 12 games against ranked opponents.
