The Mariners announce they've agreed to a 1-year deal with pitcher Shawn Kelley. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports it's worth $935,000. He can make it up to $1.1 million if he achieves his bonuses. The M's official news release is below.
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik today announced that the club has agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Shawn Kelley on a one-year contract for the 2013 season. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
By agreeing to terms with Kelley, the Mariners have no remaining arbitration-eligible players.
Kelley, 28, went 2-4 with a 3.25 ERA (16 ER, 44.1 IP) in 47 relief appearances last season. Over parts of four Major League seasons the Louisville, Kentucky native has a 3.52 ERA in 120 relief appearances. He was originally selected in the 13th round of the 2007 June draft out of Austin Peay University.
