SEATTLE - Jake Locker threw for 196 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 94 yards and a score, and Washington posted its first shutout of rival Washington State in 45 years with a 30-0 Apple Cup victory over the Cougars on Saturday night.

Washington stopped a two-game losing streak to the Cougars and beat Washington State at home for the first time since 2003.

The Huskies did it with a battering defense that knocked out Washington State quarterbacks on three different occasions and an offense that wore down the Cougars by dominating the second half on the ground.

It was the 102nd matchup between Washington and Washington State, again with both programs scuffling at the bottom of the Pac-10. The fleeting bowl hopes for Washington (3-7, 2-6) evaporated two weeks ago with a loss at Oregon State, while it's been another year for the Cougars (1-10, 0-8) of blowout losses and mounting fan frustration.

Well said, rfrenchjr! It's time to do some Coug housecleaning, starting with Sterk! Morale is at an all-time low. Sterk has meddled with Coug sports long enough now, and something must be done about it.

Wow, what a season (0-8). I can hardly blame Coach Wulff, he is a mid-level coach from a smaller division and not ready to coach in the PAC 10. The person to blame is WSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk. Instead of spending available money on a top notch coach he dumps it into his pet project, Martin Stadium. Although we need an updated stadium, having a team that people want to see and other teams want to play should come first. Then raising money for private box seats won't be so difficult. So far he has promoted two poor football coaches, tried to move the Apple Cup to Seattle, and lost our basketball coach. Not sure if you all feel the same, but I am tired of being the joke of the PAC 10. Think it time for a change, and we need to start from the top. Loyal Coug
