Forget dinner and a movie. Many people around Western Washington are choosing dinner and a hockey game! And they're finding that they can get more than their money's worth, thanks to two local WHL teams.

Everett Silvertips fans can enjoy a nice meal at the Vintage Cafe before heading to a 'Tips game at Comcast Arena. The total cost? $19.99, which includes a voucher for an upper level seat to the game. If you feel the need to be closer to the action, you can upgrade to a lower-level ticket for $5 more. It's called the "Silvertips Steak and Wine Special," and owner Jim Staniford says it's his way to help broaden the experience for the more casual hockey fan. If Jim's name sounds familiar, he's also the President of the Everett Silvertips Booster Club and a season ticket holder.

"I've been a huge hockey fan all my life," he said. "I have a picture of my grandmother player with her team (in Greenwood, BC) in 1914.They won their championship."

The Vintage Cafe is located at 1508 Hewitt Avenue, between Colby and Rucker Avenues and just a couple of short blocks away from Comcast Arena. Their phone number is: 425-252-8224 if you have any questions or to make reservations. Just ask for the "Silvertips Steak and Wine" special. The Silvertips are also making it easy for season ticket holders to enjoy dinner while watching pre-game warm ups. The Arena Grill at Comcast Arena is now accepting dinner reservations. The menu boasts dishes like bacon-wrapped prawns, chili (made with steak) and Sicilian penne pasta (a tasty concoction including sauteed sausage, peppers, onions... you get the idea). Again, this pre-game warm up + dinner offer is only for season ticket holders, and reservations are required. For more information, call the Arena Grill: 425-322-2726.

The Seattle Thunderbirds are continuing their partnership with Salty's at Redondo Beach. The restaurant is offering a 3 course meal, ticket to a T-Birds game and transportation to and from ShoWare Center, for $55. Tonight's special for the game against the Kamloops Blazers is sold out, but Scott at Salty's told me that they'll pick things up again for Friday night home games starting in January. In the meantime, Salty's is offering up a bunch of specials for the holiday season at both their Redondo Beach and Alki locations, including their March of the Nutcrackers and photos with Santa.
