COVINGTON, Wash. -- Seattle Christian senior Katie Collier has spent her entire life competing on the basketball court.  The 6-foot 3-inch star who is currently battling acute promyelocytic leukemia just announced on Tuesday that she'll play basketball next season at the University of Washington.

A donation account has been set up at U.S. Bank to help offset the costs of Collier's medical care. Donations can be made at any U.S. Bank location. Checks must be made out to "Katie Collier Medical Fund."

Kewfly, lucky for you there are first amendment rights, and they protect the mentally deficient (YOU) as well as the rest of us.

Hey kewfly, would you consider meeting face to face to discuss the apparent issues you seem to have issue with?

@our_ spam_account..Who really cares that you think this sad story was written poorly?? Where is the "editor." Most of us on King Comments respond without giving thought at times to dot our I's and cross our T's.. I think your comment was inappropriate and insensitive..I think people focused on your criticism of the article and the "sadness" you speak of, is not your priority! I would suggest for those of you who participate in King 5 Comments, and do not like the way a story is written/editing or occasionally wrong information, etc. (what media doesn't?) Maybe you should change to KOMO?

I sure hope they got it early enough and this will just be a memory for this young lady. Folks with her spirit are people we need and nobody needs her more than her family. Good luck and keep the faith you gonna whip this thing.

An amazing young spirit, which is what you need to beat cancer. Katie will be just fine, now that she's found a winning team. My wife has battled the very rare cancer; Angio-sarcoma and thanks to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), she is now two years cancer free. I had reached out on the internet, after Virginaia Mason Hospital had done all they could and found the SCCA. I had not found anyone who survived more than 1-year, with most at 6-months. There were very few rare form cancer care institutions in the country, with a good success rate, so I was so happy to find the SCCA; a part of the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Institute, in our own backyard! Katie couldn't be in better hands than the SCCA. Welcome to the family Katie. I look forward to hearing your name along side countless WNBA records some day;-)

The whiole time I was reading the story I was praying that she was getting treatment at SCCA. My 20 year old cousin was treated and cured of her Leukemia throught the fantastic team of physicians and nurses at UW/SCCA/Fred Hutch. She now has a baby! Stay stong and pick UW so your nurses and Dr 's can watch you play ball and know that all the heartbreak that they do witness occasionally will temporarily go away. People like YOU is what keeps them fighting for the cure. You are more of an inspiration than you realize.

There is life and light on the other side of chemo, keep a positive mental attitude. There is no substitute for raw determination.

Thanks for sharing this inspiring story, Chris. It's great to see a bit of positivity on an evening newscast often ridden with stories that fit the "If it bleeds, it leads" mantra. Keep up the good work.

Go Katie Go! You are a strong young woman, you can make it through this. God bless you and the whole family. May He give you strength when the days are too long and the treatment too painful. He will give grace and perseverance to your parents, they will love you through this, that's what Mom and Dads do.

Just another reason why we watch King 5 all the time. You guys are the only ones who share stories like this on the news. Thank you King for bringing us the inspirational stuff and not all the garbage all the time. And best wishes to Katie

Argh - grammar foul! It's "could have", people - "could have", not "could of"! How can you read "could of" and think that it makes sense? Why is it that so many "journalists" have difficulty communicating in their native language? Best wishes to Katie. She's in good hands at SCCA.
