Sonics great Fred Brown is selling his championship ring.  Grey Flannel Auctions took bids for the 1979 title ring.  It eventually sold for $115,242.

Paul Silvi spoke with "Downtown" Freddie Brown Wednesday afternoon. Brown says his wife was going through some of their old stuff and decided to get rid of some things.  The purge included old Sonics memoribilia and sweatpants. And unbeknownest to Fred, his 1979 championship ring was in the lot.  Fred found out about it from his wife days after the fact.  She told him she was going to donate the money raised to charities.  So Brown told his wife that he "supports her 100 percent".

Brown says he knows he'll get some calls about selling his old Sonics gear and ring, but he claims he doesn't care about memoribilia nor did he really collect it.

Another Sonics great also tells OKC to stick it. Here's Shawn Kemp's interview with KJR 950AM. OKC asked him to sit courtside in Denver for a playoff game. Man, can Clay "Bubba" Bennett be anymore disrespectful to the Sonics faithful? First he stole the Sonics. Just recently, they started selling an OKC hat with the year the Sonics were founded.  Then asking the "Reign Man" to come to a game.  What's next? Will Bennett ask if OKC can play an exhibition game at KeyArena?

Wake up and smell our very own Starbucks coffee you overly emotional fans! Professional sports franchise owners have been yanking Seattle sports fans chains since 1970 (Pilots to Milwaukee) was the start. Flabby Bubba Behring drove the Seahawks to southern Cal. before the Commish. threatened to fine him $400K per day to bring them back. Jeff( Pretty Boy) Smulyan ran a radio station and was so far in over his head with owning the Mariners he tried to move them to Tampa Bay. And then there is the Sonics. Nothing more needs to be said there, Bennett & Stern LYING kniving thieves. So..... do y'all see a pattern here? Or will you have to continue slamming your head into that brick wall before you realize that it will not move, no matter how many times you hit it? Just root for the Huskies, there aren't leaving!

The headline is misleading.. the Sonics 'Legend' didn't sell his ring.. his wife did without his knowledge.. big difference

For those who choose to forget Downtown was excellence personified as the fifth man on a team without an I on the bench.. Twas the next year we learned how elite owner planned to reward greatness. Shame an blame came to town an the learder of the band, Gus was made to sit on the sidelines in a contract despute that never resolve anything except that Sam n the boyes of the NBA owners asscication were not up to the task of being leaders off the court. Chooseing instead to increase profits and blackmail the city fathers.. Just as they have done for so long. If MR Brown has no regrets it isn't suprizing at all , I myself gave up my season tickets long before the team vanished into the night for greedy elite self satisfied fools . Good for him an as a friend I can tell you it isn't about cash as this man has patiencely an steadly proved his worth many many times not just on the ball court.

I dont buy that story for one minute. You just do not sell your championship ring unless you got problems...

True legends in my opinion are the ones who still do things the fans love even after they are done playing. Thank you Gary, Shawn and Freddy for still being great. I loved the Sonics but with what has happened in the NBA ever since Clay Bennett stole our team makes me very weary of ever having an NBA team again. I mean David Stern is a nut wacko. He not only allowed for things to happen as he did, he played a part in it and then he appoints Clay Bennett to be in charge of relocating NBA teams on top of it. Stern has essentially said the NBA is his bag of litle plastic green army men and he will put them wherever he wants whenever he wants and Clay will be responsible for making it happen. Stern will do what he wants to simply because he can.
