Charlie Whitehurst has worn No. 6 for 13 seasons as an NFL quarterback, including two with the Seattle Seahawks. But when Whitehurst was traded to the Tennessee Titans, punter Brett Kern was already the reigning No. 6. So Kern and Whitehurst decided to arm-wrestle for control of the coveted number.

Whitehurst lost, writing on Instagram: “Arm-wrestled the punter for #6 and lost #itwasagoodrun6 #13years.”

Maybe losing a test of strength to a punter would be shameful a few decades ago. But the notion of punters being the nebbish little brother on football teams is antiquated. 2014 is the year of the punter, you guys. They might as well be undercover linebackers. There are punters like Brandon Fields who weighs in at 6’5″, 250 lbs. There are also punters who look like Steve Weatherford. Steve Weatherford looks like this.

There’s no shame in defeat, Charlie Whitehurst. One day soon, punters will rule the world.
