PITTSBURGH -- A week ago, Mike Adams was waiting for his phone to ring. On Friday the former Ohio State star walked onto the Pittsburgh Steelers practice field as a professional football player.
The second-round draft pick joined 39 other rookies for the start of a three-day minicamp. Adams says he missed playing football but comes into camp with low expectations. He will likely work as a backup tackle when training camp opens in July.
Expectations are a bit higher for first round pick David DeCastro out of Stanford. The All-American guard will likely get a chance to prove he can start right away. DeCastro isn't shying away from the attention. He chose to wear No. 66 with the Steelers, the same number worn by Alan Faneca, a six-time All-Pro in Pittsburgh.
DeCastro played high school football at Bellevue High School.
