Excerpts from Washington Attorney General’s Office complaints

01:32 PM PST on Thursday, November 15, 2007

"I called Sears to ask for a refund on the service agreement as I have not used it and when I have tried they don't show up."

"As a twenty-year plus Sears customer, I have purchased several appliances.  Most recent are a washer/dryer and dishwasher on which I purchased the service/repair contract only to experience unprofessional and slow service."

"It is likely fraudulent, but most certainly unethical and poor business practice to sell a service contract and not deliver the previously paid for service in a timely and professional manner."

"Is it unreasonable to pay for a repair agreement that leaves a critical piece of equipment out of service for more than two months total out of the last 4 months?"

"I've been without hot water for a week.  Unacceptable given that I have a service maintenance agreement."

"This seems to be a predatory practice - scare the consumer into buying an unnecessary 'warranty' before sending a repair person to actually fix the machine."

"I'm sure plenty of Washingtonians are customers of Sears and should be aware of the 'warranty policy' before purchasing and being stuck like I am."

"I have never in my life been treated so impolite!"

"I have asked for a full refund of my service agreement money since it is an absolutely worthless investment."

"I want a refund of all my warranties because I have learned that Sears warranty is a scam.  It is never intended to be honored in any way shape or form."

"I feel like I have been completely taken advantage of by Sears..."

"I will never purchase from Sears again."

"I am frustrated and disgusted from the lack of customer service we have received.   This is totally unacceptable.  No one seems to care that we have been living out of coolers in the back yard for over 18 days now."
