7:29 a.m. The Weather Service recorded 2.17 inches of rain at its Seattle office yesterday, smashing the previous single day record of 1.24 inches in December 2002.
7:25 a.m. City of Tacoma now reports 100,000 outages out of 160,000 total customers. That's up from 80,000 earlier this morning.
7:20 a.m. Sea-Tac Airport reports power has been restored in the South Terminal. Power is still out in the A concourse. The C concourse is back open after several windows shattered. Winds are calming down with gusts in the 20s. Many flights are still delayed or canceled. In Portland, nearly 3 dozen flights from Midnight to 1030am have been canceled.

7:10 a.m. Bellevue Square and Lincoln Square in Bellevue are both closed due to power outages.
7:07 a.m. We're getting a steady stream of calls from people who say trees have fallen on their homes. One man from West Seattle said four trees hit his house on SW Myrtle Street.
7:02 a.m. Meteorologist Jeff Renner says this is a record-setting windstorm. Some peak gusts from earlier: 70 at Westport, 74 at the Hood Canal Bridge and 63 at the 520 bridge.
6:54 a.m. PSE says they still have around 700,000 without power -- about two-thirds of its customers -- and crews have not yet been dispatched because of safety concerns. A spokesperson says it will be several days before all the power is back on.
6:46 a.m. Seattle City Light says it now has 171,000 customers without power -- that's over half its customers. And half of the city's feeder lines are down. "If it's not the largest outage (in our history), it's close to it," said spokeswoman Suzanne Hartman.
6:44 a.m. The city of Mercer Island is urging residents to stay home today. Many streets are litered with debris and blocked.
6:42 a.m. Amtrak's Cascades service between Seattle and Portland has been canceled today.
6:38 a.m. All lanes of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge have been reopened now. It had been closed at 12:30 by high winds.
6:34 a.m. There's no word when the 520 bridge will reopen, as crews still have to complete inspections. The span is still open. WSDOT says it may reopen as late as noon.
6:30 a.m. The Snohomish County Public Utility District reports progress in restoring power. 95,000 are without power, down from 120,000. Crews from Eastern Washington, California and Idaho are helping local lineman.
6:28 a.m. Some peak gusts recorded earlier: 69 in Seattle, 68 at Sea-Tac Airport, 58 in Tacoma, 56 at Gig Harbor.
6:24 a.m. King County Executive Ron Sims has issued an emergency proclamation in response to the overnight wind and flooding in the Seattle area.
6:23 a.m. Jane McCarthy reporting from Whidbey Island says trees and branches are strewn all over the roadways. Power is out across the island. Wind is still blowing at gusts up to 70 mph.
6:19 a.m. The Seattle Times says that both the Times and the PI are unable to print their papers this morning due to power outages. No papers will be delivered.
6:17 a.m. Carrie Meyer from Crow's Nest Marina in NE Tacoma says the dock has broken off, half a dozen boats are on the beach and a barge from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge construction project has broken loose. Two other boats from the marina are sinking.
6:08 a.m. Eastbound lanes of the Tacoma Narrows bridge have reopened. Westbound lanes are expected to open soon.
6:05 a.m. Metro bus service on the Eastside will be limited to park and ride lots, freeway stops and the Bellevue Transit Center only because of downed trees on Eastside arterial roads. Expect significant delays in all Metro bus service.
6 a.m. King County Emergency Management says at least 300 trees have fallen across roads and some power poles have snapped. Many traffic signals are out. Metro Transit trolleys are not running.
5:50 a.m. Hood Canal Bridge is open to traffic.
5:41 a.m. Sea-Tac Airport update: Power is out in the A concourse and the south satellite. Windows are broken in the C concourse. Some flights are impacted.
5:30 a.m. While the Summit at Snoqualmie has five new inches of snow, they have no power, so they're in a "standby situation" until power is restored.
5:27 a.m. I-90 reversible HOV lanes shut down due to power problems with the reversible lane gates.
5:24 a.m. King County's West Point Treatment Plan sustained some significant damages to their control operations due to flooding. Numerous roads are closed because of downed trees and power lines. The county has issued an emergency proclamation.
5:01 a.m. Two people suffered minor injuries in the Lake Forest Park area fire. The house is a total loss.
4:41 a.m. Seattle School District has cancelled classes. See School closures pages for more information.
4:38 a.m. The state DOT plans to reopen the Tacoma Narrows bridge at 5:30 a.m. unless winds pick up. A Ryder truck knocked over by the wind is still on the bridge.
4:20 a.m. Highway 99 in Seattle at Woodland Park Zoo is closed due to downed trees.
4:01 a.m. Two trees fell at the Sunset View Apartments in Renton, damaging a couple vehicles and grazing a building.
3:50 a.m. Downed trees and power lines have been cleared and SR 4 has reopened between mileposts 20-25 in Wahkiakum County.
3:49 a.m. The roof has blown off the Sterling Savings Bank in Montesano.
3:41 a.m. A downed tree is blocking 45th in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood.
3:35 a.m. The road to the Fauntleroy Ferry Dock is blocked by downed trees and wires.
3:32 a.m. A National Weather Service high wind warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. today across much of Western Washington. The strongest winds will occur early this morning along the Strait of Juan de Fuca and across Whidbey Island. Sustained winds of 50-60 mph, with gusts in the 80-90 mph range will continue through approximately 6 a.m.
3:27 a.m. Campus Parkway in Seattle's U-District is flooded, according to a witness. Crews are at the scene trying to drain it.
3:22 a.m. Our SchoolNet station at Naval Air Station Whidbey recorded a gust of 69 mph.
3:17 a.m. Firefighters are battling a house fire in the Lake Forest Park area. Initial reports are that a candle in a bedroom sparked the fire. The home's occupants are OK, but pets may still be inside.
3:12 a.m. Auburn road closures include:
- Lea Hill Road is closed from 116th Ave SE to 104th Ave SE
- D St. NE is closed from AWN to 49th St NE
- 6th St NE east of R St NE
- West Valley Hwy from 15th St SW to 1st Ave N
- Lake Tapps Parkway from 182nd Ave SE and 62nd St SE. Crews are attempting to clear it for emergency access.
- 4th St SE from D St SE to F St SE
- 37th St NW from West Valley Hwy to Emerald Downs Dr.
- Kersey Way is closed at 53rd St SE and Oravetz Rd.
- C St NW is closed from 2nd St NW to 3rd St NW
- Howard Rd. from R St SE to Riverwalk Dr.
2:22 a.m. Water is leaking into Tacoma Mall from new skylights being installed there.
1:59 a.m. We have a report of trees down at 10th and Yesler in Seattle.
1:30 a.m. We have a report of a tree down on an apartment building at 134th and Greenwood in Seattle.
1:27 a.m. There's a report of structural damage at terminal C at Sea-Tac International Airport. Part of the ceiling/ceiling tiles have fallen due to water damage. There is also a report of some windows being blown out. A KREM producer at the airport says staff are telling people to stay away from the windows.
1:21 a.m. A tree in the roadway has northbound SR 405 closed at the West Valley Highway.
1:10 a.m. SR 530 is closed in Darrington due to downed trees.
12:45 a.m. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge has been shut down.
12:15 a.m. Seattle City Light reports 75,000 customers are without power, and more reports coming in. They have crews out doing what they can, but not too much can be done while the wind still persists. For more details on power outages go to http://www.seattle.gov/light/.
12:06 a.m. A tree fell into a 2-story home in Ocean Shores. Nobody was hurt.
11:59 p.m. Passengers flying in and out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport this evening can expect a little rock and roll - as planes meet winds peaking up to 63 mph at 10 p.m.
11:38 p.m. Caller says she watched as several transformers blew up one by one.
11:35 p.m. We're getting this information second-hand, but a caller has an update on the Amtrak train stuck in Kelso. She says her daughter is on the train and that crews will try to remove trees behind it, then back it up to Vancouver, WA. Then passengers will be loaded on buses and driven to Tacoma where they're expected to arrive at 3 a.m.
11:33 p.m. A caller says a brick facade has blown off an apartment building at Eastlake and Harrison in Seattle, filling the parking lot with bricks.
11:14 p.m. PSE says there are widespread power outages, but it doesn't have an accurate estimate on numbers. It is not sending out crews until it is safe to do so.
11:12 p.m. Caller says a big tree has crashed through the Highland Crest Apartments, building R, in Kent. Nobody is injured.
11:09 p.m. Meteorologist Jeff Renner says the forecast is not changing. Gusts of 60-70 in the Seattle metro area, peaking until 4 a.m. Gusts of 80-90 through the Straight, Kitsap and the North Sound, peaking until 8 a.m. Gusts of 90-110 along the coast, peaking until 2 a.m.
11:08 p.m. Caller says Port Orchard without power.
11:06 p.m. Jim Forman said he measured a gust of 53 mph in downtown Seattle.
11:03 p.m. Caller says much of Edmonds is without power. Here's the latest update from Seattle City Light: Tukwila, 3600 customers in the dark; Burien, 3671; Beacon Hill, 1082; Rainier Beach, 3853; Wallingford, 3380; Tukwila and Burien, 2867; Sheridan Beach north to Lake Forest Park, 2912.
11:01 p.m. Seattle Police are closing the streets around 4th and Spring due to construction equipment that's flying into the roadway. Police are also worried that a crane there may be in danger of falling over.
10:55 p.m. The woman who was pulled from her flooded basement in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood has died at Harborview Medical Center.
10:41 p.m. A second person has called us from Amtrak train 508 which has been stranded on the tracks near Kelso. Trees and mud cover the tracks. The train was headed from Portland to Seattle.
10:40 p.m. WSDOT has opened the span of the 520 bridge to allow the water to flow, reducing the pressure. From the live camera, it looks like a river is flowing through the center of the bridge. (Live camera streamed on home page.)
10:38 p.m. A tree has fallen into an elder care facility on NE 45th St. in Vancouver, WA, seriously injuring a resident inside.
10:34 p.m. Caller says trees have crashed through the roofs of two homes in Everett along Seahurst Ave. He says the trees missed the residents inside by a few feet.
10:31 p.m. Caller says downtown Poulsbo is without power.
10:28 p.m. The 520 bridge live traffic camera shows sheets of water blowing horizontally across the bridge (you can watch it live, linked off the home page).
10:19 p.m. Caller says Camano Island is now without power.
10:17 p.m. Bunch more road closures:SR 101 has multiple lane closures along the west bank of Hood Canal due to water over the roadway. SR 203 is blocked by fallen trees south of Duvall. SR 11 (Chuckanut Drive) is closed in both directions north of Burlington at milepost 3. Trees are blocking the roadway. SR 522 is blocked by fallen trees at Paradise Lake Road east of Woodinville. SR 531 is blocked by trees at McCrae Road west of Arlington.
10:10 p.m. Some 6,000+ customers are without power in Ocean Shores. Sustained winds are blowing above 50 mph.
10:07 p.m. WSDOT is now closing the 520 bridge, which will be closed at least through the morning commute, if not until noon. The I-90 bridge is being watched, but it won't close until sustained winds reach 65 mph.
10:04 p.m. The winds are clocking in at 46 mph sustained at the 520 bridge. WSDOT will close the bridge at 50 mph.
10:01 p.m. Sea-Tac Airport is experiencing multiple delays and cancelations.
9:54 p.m. Just like the Eastside, King County 911 dispatchers are urging the public not to call 911 unless it's an emergency (see below).
9:49 p.m. Eastside Communications Center, the 911 dispatch center for the Eastside, is urging people to NOT call 911 unless it's an emergency. Power outages, dark intersections, flooding, downed power lines (unless they're live) and bad traffic conditions are not emergencies. Dispatchers say they're swamped with calls, and they're urging residents to stay at home due to dangerous conditions outside.
9:28 p.m. Pierce County is asking the public to remain "sheltered in place" as conditions have become treacherous on the roadways. Two people have died in the last few hours from falling trees. All residents are asked to please heed all warnings and stay indoors. The Pierce County Emergency Operations Center is open and monitoring rapidly changing conditions.
9:25 p.m. PSE says it does not have updated power outage numbers as they're keeping crews inside until the height of the storm passes for safety reasons. When asked, PSE said its earlier estimate of 12,000 homes is "way low." They have outages in Island, King, Kitsap, Pierce and Thurston Counties.
9:18 p.m. Seattle City Light says it has restored power in many areas, but 790 customers are still in the dark in Sheridan Beach and Lake City. 857 are without power in West Seattle, and 154 in south industrial Seattle.
9:17 p.m. One of KING 5's producers called in to say the power is out along S. 320th St. between Pac Highway South and 1st Avenue South in Federal Way.
9:06 p.m. Sustained winds of 38 mph are blowing at the 520 bridge, with gusts up to 47. WSDOT says it will close the bridge at 11 p.m. or when sustained winds hit 50 mph, whichever comes first.
9:00 p.m. Westbound I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass is now open. Both directions are moving, yet chains are required.
8:53 p.m. High winds have prompted authorities to close the Hood Canal bridge. The Transportation Department says winds at the bridge have gusted to 74 miles per hour. No estimated time yet for reopening.
8:49 p.m. We're looking into reports that trees have blocked the railroad tracks in Kelso, halting an Amtrak train trying to make it up to Seattle from Vancouver.
8:34 p.m. Seattle Public Utilities says it has received approximately 200 calls regarding flooding on Seattle streets, and another 200-some calls pertaining to house flooding. SPU says 20 work crews are dealing with issues ranging from landslides and street flooding to sewage backups and a sinkhole.
8:10 p.m. Highway 161 has been reopened to traffic in Federal Way. It was closed from downed trees.
7:54 p.m. Pierce County Sheriff's Department says two people have died from falling trees in two separate incidents. The first one occurred at 5 p.m. when a tree fell across the roadway. The driver made an evasive maneuver in an attempt to avoid hitting the falling tree. The driver hit another tree and died from his injuries. Then at 6 p.m a small pickup with two occupants was struck by a falling tree. The incident occurred in the 40400 block of Harts Lake Valley Road S. One occupant was killed the other was extricated and is being flown to Harborview Medical Center.
7:52 p.m. A sinkhole has closed the northbound lane of 132nd Avenue NE, from NE 175th Street to Woodinville-Snohomish Road in Woodinville.
7:51 p.m. SR 6 in Lewis County is closed between mileposts 30 and 51 due to trees and debris in the roadway.
7:45 p.m. Meteorologist Jeff Renner has posted an updated forecast. In a nutshell, the worst winds are expected to begin around midnight (10 p.m. on the coast.) Also, take a look at the wind map to see where the wind is headed.
7:42 p.m. South Peasley Canyon Way between S. 321st Street and Peasley Canyon Way South, near Auburn, is closed due to downed trees involving power lines.
7:31 p.m. South Sound bureau chief Paul Aker reports that most of Aberdeen is without power. Strong winds have toppled power lines into roadways creating dangerous driving conditions in the area.
7:20 p.m. Seattle Transportation reports there's a sinkhole 15 by 20 feet in size along SW Thistle and Northrup in West Seattle.
7:16 p.m. WSDOT says the standing water has been cleared along Northbound I-5 in downtown Seattle. Traffic is still slow, but moving along.
7:15 p.m. Nearly 40 flights have been canceled so far out of Portland International Airport due to high winds.
7:08 p.m. Dive teams have pulled a woman out of her flooded home on 30th Ave. East and rushed her to the hospital in extremely critical condition. She was underwater for more than 5 minutes.
7:04 p.m. Highway 161 is closed in both directions at S. 370th St. (South Pierce County) until further notice due to fallen trees.
6:51 p.m. Caller says a huge poplar tree has crashed into two homes along Lake Washington Blvd. S. in Leschi. No injuries reported.
6:44 p.m. Highway 12 at Forstrom Road in Rochester (Thurston Co.) is closed in both directions due to downed trees. Road crews estimate it will be cleared in 3 hours.
6:40 p.m. The on-ramp on northbound I-405 at NE 124th St. is closed due to high water.
6:34 p.m. Caller from Federal Way says a 100 foot tree has crashed through the fence and is leaning on her house, buckling the ceiling.
6:32 p.m. Southbound Highway 99 is closed between 112th and 128th due to a semi truck that hit a power pole.
6:27 p.m. Update on wind gusts from School Net sites: Oak Harbor, 32 mph; Redmond HS, 33 mph; Pacific Beach, 44 mph; Enumclaw, 22 mph; Bonney Lake, 40 mph.
6:22 p.m. New power outage update from Seattle City Light: 857 customers are without power in SW Seattle. 4000 in Lake Forest Park. 150 in the south industrial area.
6:18 p.m. A caller reports a big tree has fallen over Lake Washington Blvd. near the I-90 tunnel.
6:13 p.m. The southbound lanes of I-5 in Lewis County are closed south of Chehalis because of trees across the freeway. There's no estimated time to reopen the roadway.
6:08 p.m. Seattle firefighters had to rescue drivers who were trapped in their cars along Mercer Ave. under Aurora. Video shows water that's several feet deep and a car with water all the way up to its roof.
6:07 p.m. Divers have responded to that house along 30th Ave. East to attempt a rescue of a man trapped underwater in his basement.
6:02 p.m. KING 5's Elisa Hahn said it took her an hour and twenty minutes just to drive down Queen Anne Hill to Denny. "It's some of the worst traffic I've seen in 10 years," she said.
5:54 p.m. Westbound I-90 is closed to westbound traffic at milepost 106 near Ellensburg due to multiple collisions and stuck vehicles in the vicinity of MP 93 to MP 98. Eastbound traffic is moving, although chains are required.
5:53 p.m. Two cars are submerged up to their windshields under Aurora/99 on Mercer.
5:46 p.m. Seattle fire crews are responding to an unconfirmed report of a man trapped by high water in his basement on 30th Ave. East.
5:42 p.m. The WSDOT reports a high wind gust of 56 m.p.h at the 520 bridge. WSDOT says it's planning to close the bridge at 11 p.m. unless conditions merit to close it earlier.
5:39 p.m. Callers report power outages in Lynnwood and the Sammamish Plateau.
5:36 p.m. A caller reports a car is submerged along Mercer near 5th Avenue in Seattle.
5:28 p.m. WSDOT reports heavy standing water on southbound I-405 in Kirkland, as well as I-5 through Seattle. "We're getting people out there as fast as we can," said Meghan Soptich, WSDOT.
5:23 p.m. A number of power outages to report. PSE says it has 12,000 customers without power in Olympia, North King County, Kitsap Peninsula and Pierce County. Seattle City Light reports 4,000 without power.
5:18 p.m. Northbound I-5 at Denny in downtown Seattle is down to one lane of traffic due to deep water across the roadway.
5:10 p.m. The Seahawks game is now underway.
5:05 p.m. A minor mudslide has been reported near Prospect and Olympic in Seattle. Lots of standing water along Elliott Ave. is slowing traffic.
4:55 p.m. Parts of the playing surface at Qwest Field has flooded, and kickoff for the Seahawks game will be delayed 15 minutes. The scoreboard temporarily went out, the lights flickered and TV sets went to static.
4:45 p.m. Heavy rainfall has created standing water and dangerous conditions on I-5 as well as other major roadways in the Seattle area.
