King County spent $6K a day to guard Ridgway
11:17 AM PST on Thursday, December 11, 2003
SEATTLE - The King County sheriff’s office spent $6,000-$7,000 a day to
guard Gary Ridgway for four months at the Green River Task Force
headquarters.
It costs $77 a day to hold him at the county jail.
That added expense is one reason the sheriff’s office overspent its
budget by $1.5 million.
The sheriff’s office says it took longer than expected to work with Ridgway on the confession that led to 48 guilty pleas. He’ll be sentenced next Thursday to life in prison.
