Ridgway defense team prepares for Wednesday hearing
11:04 AM PST on Friday, November 7, 2003
SEATTLE - The defense team for Green River suspect Gary Ridgway huddled
for hours Monday, hammering out 11th hour details before Ridgway pleads
guilty to murder on Wednesday.
KING 5 News broke the story last Tuesday that Ridgway will plead guilty
to 48 charges of aggravated murder. In exchange, prosecutors have agreed
to drop the death penalty.
KING 5 News has learned that over the weekend, King County Sheriff Dave
Reichert and King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng visited the victims'
families, notifying them as to whether Ridgway would be pleading guilty
to the murder of their loved one.
KING 5 has also learned that the sheriff's department has developed an
extensive security plan for Wednesday's hearing when Ridgway will admit
to being the most prolific serial murderer in U.S. history.
