Who would have thought chickens could do yard work? Meet a woman who wrote the secrets to getting a greener garden.
"I consider my chicken's working pets," author Jessie Bloom said.
Her feathered friends lay eggs, but she also trains them to work in the garden.
Turkeys go where they're told. Chickens mow the lawns and pull weeds. Ducks are in charge of eating slugs.
"It's all about a reward system," advised Bloom.
Vary plants and vegetables, so there are some poultry like and some they don't.
Another key: don't take on more than you and your space can handle.
"I encourage people to start with three chickens and work their way up," said Bloom.
Once you have trained them, not only will the birds work, they will provide hours of entertainment.
