Jake joined KING 5 News as the North Bureau Chief in March of 2010. Jake is proud to return home to the Northwest where he spent much of his life in Montana. He graduated from Montana State University-Bozeman, earning a Media-Arts Degree. He also studied at New York University.
Jake began his career as a ‘One-Man Band’ Reporter and eventually Anchor at KTVQ in Billings, Montana. In 2005, Jake was the only Reporter from Montana to travel to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina made landfall. From there Jake moved to Columbus, Ohio where he worked as a reporter with WSYX/WTTE. He was right in the thick of things during the historic 2008 Presidential Election.
In 2014, Jake spent two weeks in communities affected by the devastating landslide in Oso, Washington, and is always known for being right in the thick of things during any major story in Western Washington.
If you missed the newscast, Jake is heavily involved in social media and online reporting for up to the minute stories too.
During his career Jake has won several Emmy Awards and an Edward R Murrow Award for his writing and Breaking News Coverage. He has also received writing awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and Associated Press including ‘Best Reporter 2010’ in the state of Ohio.
He was also appointed by Governor Brian Schweitzer to serve on the Montana Film and Television Advisory Council.
Jake is an avid golfer, fly-fisherman, skier and family man. He is always hosting community events and spending time with his wife Tara, daughter Lula and son Oliver.
