Chris Daniels began reporting for KING 5 News in 2003. He came to Seattle in 2000 as a reporter for KCPQ-TV. Prior to that, he was a reporter and fill-in anchor for WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, MI, and a morning/noon anchor for KIDK-TV in Idaho Falls, ID.
Daniels has been honored with several prestigious awards including: Michigan's "Reporter of the Year" from the Michigan chapter of the Associated Press in 1999; several awards for investigative pieces in Michigan and Seattle; and "The Award for Broadcast Media Excellence" from USA Equestrian in 2002 for the story on a local firefighter who is an Olympic Gold Medal winner on the US Equestrian Team. Throughout his career, Daniels has done it all. He has won awards for Hard News, Investigative News, News Documentary, Sports, General News, Spot News, and Features. He has interviewed personalities from all walks of life, from Senator John McCain to Christina Aguilera, and Vice President Dick Cheney to Kid Rock. His live and taped reports have appeared on other local and national broadcast outlets, including CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, and NBC, as well as 950 KJR and 97.3 KIRO FM.
Daniels himself was interviewed by Dateline NBC in December 2005 for his story profiling a cancer patient whose identity was stolen by a hospital worker. The series of stories outed the worker and persuaded Federal Attorneys to charge him as the first person ever to violate Federal Medical Record Privacy Laws.
He's also an avid sports fan, and has shown his interest through some of his reporting. In 2008, he extensively chronicled the Supersonics departure from Seattle, and traveled to New York City to see the NBA grant permission for the team to move. In 2010, he spent the better part of a month, living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia covering the Winter Olympics.
Daniels was born and raised in University Place. He attended Washington State University and is still a proud Cougar football and basketball fan. Daniels lives in Seattle with his wife, daughter, and several pets. During their free time they love to travel, dine out at Seattle's fine restaurants and attend sporting events.
