If you're heading to the Olympic winter games, hopefully you already know you'll need different documents if you're going into Canada and coming back into the U.S.

The last thing you want is a bumpy ride. You want everything to go smoothly.

When it comes to getting into Canada or getting into the United States, there are different requirements depending on which way you're going.

U.S. citizens can enter Canada with a birth certificate and picture I.D. That's going *into* Canada.

Coming back into the U.S., you need a passport, a passport card, an enhanced driver's license or a trusted traveler card. These rules have been in place since last June.

And with more than the usual February crowds expected at the border because of the games, this is a very good time to be on your game.  Whichever way you go, you need to know what you need to have to get in.

Someone 'who KNOWS', Please: why different reqs for air travel than ground or water travel to/from Canada??? surely a 'terrorist' would choose the least restrictive mode (DUH!) just Who are these restrictions/requirements aimed at????

You need one of the 4 items listed. The Enhanced drivers license which you can only get in BC and Washington replaces the passport for land travel only. For Air travel you need the passport. If you have a Nexus card thats good enough for land crossings but you still need a passport with the Nexus for Air Travel.

Or you could go through one of the many drug tunnels dotted along the border.
