It could be one of the most important things you do for your child: place them in a quality pre-school. But what qualifies as quality? A new program is being implemented right now in several Washington state child care centers to determine just that. KING 5's Roberta Romero shows one of the key elements for improvement is also one of the simplest--- teaching the teacher.

An even more important thing you could do for your child is keep them home with you and raise them yourself in a quality environment until they are old enough to enter the regular school system.

imo they need to make liability insurance a requirement to be a state licensed day care. you would think it is already... but as i found out when my son was attacked by a dog that was brought into the state licensed daycare for breeding (yes in a state licensed daycare without any notification to parents!) and had several bites on his face and side of his head into his skull - indeed, no accountability, no liability insurance requirements in this state to be 'state licensed'. i was astonished and angry and my kids never went back to any daycare after that. i quit my job and was a stay at home mom because the state thinks so little about insuring the welfare of our children... "state licensed" daycare is imo just a label and no indication that the state (or the people who run the daycare) are looking out for your children. safety should be the first priority! shame you don't have to take an iq test also in order to aquire that license!
